It's October 19th already!!!

Hey everyone!! Wow... November sure is creeping up fairly fast, and before we know it, it will be december!! Ahhh... anyways, so it's thursday, which means I have one more day of work before I have a whole week off! Hooray!!!! I'm super excited, if you haven't noticed... so, tomorrow I work from 8-1, then I'll pack, and then Saturday, we're on our way!!! So, I decided that my blogs have been lacking entertainment lately, so I'm going to post some random pictures, but I've decided to give you a list of slang I've picked up or overheard over here... plus some things that are different.
1. Pants are not pants. Pants are underwear, and trousers are pants. Don't ever make the mistake of asking a male stranger where a store is that sells pants, or tell young children you are not wearing any pants... dear god, chaos!
2. The crows are actually scared of people and the squirrels are not! The crows will run away if you walk 10 metres from them, but the squirrels run to you and want to play! They are wicked cool... one squirrel was one foot from my face as it climbed a fence to see me! :) Backwards, hey?
3. It is windy non-stop, and rains constantly... and one new thing for me over here, is that there is about one thunder and lightning storm a week... cool eh? Sometimes... it's wierd when they are at like 3:00 in the afternoon though.
4. They drive on the other side of the road, as you all probably know. But the fun part for us is trying to cross the street... ugh, pray for me that I don't get hit by a car... and the drivers here, aren't the best!
5. There is a heck of a lot of trees and bushes, but very little water around here, which depresses me.
6. The toilets are a pain in the you-know-what. Don't think they will flush after one go, give it a good 5 times and maybe they will go. Oh, it's so much fun!
7. The English people drink more tea than you will ever know! I'm sure they consume more in a month than I have in my entire 18 years of existence, and I love tea. Try at least 3 cups a day or more... I like to stick to one a night and possibly one during the day.
8. The food here is more fatty and fried than imaginable. Please cross your fingers, wish on shooting stars, throw a penny over your left shoulder into a fountain, hey even wish on your birthday candles for me not to gain to much weight over here. My options for both lunch and dinner are pasta or fried. Fantastic.
9. Okay, this isn't a fact, but I'm in the midst of yet another thunder and lightning storm. Woot.
10. Dinner does not exist. Dinner is tea. So it goes, breakfast, lunch, tea, and then there's supper (8:00), which would be a bed-time snack for us.
11. There are no starbucks where I am, and as you might know, I am heartbroken, but have learned how to ditch an addiction... my poor body has been ridden of all the starbucks-y goodness. Shame.
12. Everything is twice the price. It sucks, because when you go to buy something you are like hey, 20 pounds isn't bad, but then you realize you are paying 40-something canadian dollars for a t-shirt. Fabulous.
13. How are you? doesn't really exist. They say you o'right? and this was a hard question for me to learn how to answer because I would always say good, and then be like oh crap, yes I'm o'right, you? It's a tricky little concept.
14. If you are a young, underpaid traveller, you learn to live at primark. Primark is the store of all stores. Clothing, mind you. It's like Winners combined with Zellers... good looking stuff, but crazy cheap! It just sucks because we don't have one in Rickmansworth.
15. Tesco is the coolest place ever. It's my Thrifty Foods sub for the year. It's a huge super store full of all sorts of goodness, all for relatively cheap.

Okay, on to slang.

Pound (Money)= Quid
Glue Stick= Prit Stick
Parking Lot= Car Park
Trunk= Boot
Pants= Trousers
Underwear= Pants
Dinner=Tea
How are you?= You O'right?
Hot (guys)= Fit
Fantastic/Good/Great/Any normal happy emotion= Brilliant (Oh, that's brilliant!)
Garbage= Rubbish <-- I actually say this now.

And that is it for now, because it's late and my brain has stopped functioning... anyways I hope you enjoy this most random post, take care, and I might post tomorrow before I leave but if not hopefully I will find some time while we're away to update you all, miss you, xoxoxo

Kel.
